SINGAPORE DAY 6: GARDENS BY THE BAY (cloud forest, flower dome & Super Tree Grove)

GARDENS BY THE BAY  was first announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the National Day Rally, back in 2005. Since then it became one of the top tourist spots in Singapore. I must say one whole day is not even enough if you really want to see the entire garden. It is magnificent! but you must prepare yourself for a serious walking though. This 101 hectare reclaimed land in central Singapore comprises of 3 humongous gardens. BAY SOUTH GARDEN, BAY EAST GARDEN and BAY CENTRAL GARDEN. Bay South Garden is 54 hectares and is by far the largest garden.

Gardens by the Bay has two cooled conservatories: The Flower Dome and The Cloud Forest. They are situated along the Marina Reservoir and are both very large at around 1 hectare. Flower Dome is dubbed as the largest columnless glasshouse.

  • The Cloud Forest

This air-conditioned greenhouse-like dome is stunning both inside and out. It will definitely cool you off from the Singaporean heat but unfortunately on the day that we visited the attraction, the rain was pouring heavily. So imagine how chilly it was there inside the dome. As soon as we stepped inside the glass dome we were in awe. Thanks to the cool vapour and mist inside, we didn’t have time to think of how long the line was or how slow the movement of the people were. We didn’t even bother to stop and rest our tired feet.

You have to take an elevator to the top for you to go in and around the man-made waterfall. At the top most part, you will discover the giant moss-covered lost world complete with lotus pond. And along the way, you will see some stalactites and stalagmites.

You can also watch an educational theatre while you take your rest to regain enough strengh for another walk for the next attraction.

  • The Flower Dome

If you love flowers of different variaties or tress of gigantic sizes just like those in magical movies, then this biodome is a dream come true for you.

Flower Dome is a sister attraction of Cloud forest found inside the Gardens by the bay. And it is equally popular and jaw-dropping. The permanent exhibits of flower beds are constantly changing to reflect different seasons and traditions.

  • Super Grove Tree

Your visit to Gardens by the Bay will not be completed without going to this iconic tree-like vertical garden. Each tree measuring between 25-50 metres tall. Imagine yourself being thumbelina walking under these humongous trees. And when you get tired of walking, you don’t have to worry because giant canopies are provided to give shades during the day and exhilarating display of light and sound during the night at around 8pm. I tell you, Gardens by the Bay should really be a tick off your bucket list.
